Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

Group Classes

These are guided, specifically focused, themed classes. Over the course of successive sessions, we explore various aspects of Ashtanga:

Asanas — exploring the practice of asana and the mindset it embodies

Breath — experiencing the variety of breath rhythms and depths, recognizing and cultivating its quality; working with the information it contains as a key to the nervous system, and training the mind through focused breath

Bandhas — additional elements of the practice designed to awaken energy and teach how to manage that energy on multiple levels

Drishti — a technique that teaches the mind focus and mindful presence

We also work on:

  • activating specific muscle groups and learning how to direct their integration within the holistic functioning of the fascial networks
  • achieving proper joint rotation and using joints skillfully
  • proper use of the center of gravity and exploring its possibilities

Types of group classes::

ASHTANGA – LED – HALF SERIES OR FULL PRIMARY SERIES

This class is intended for those familiar with the First Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (at least up to Navasana).
The goal is to deepen your practice by reinforcing your memory of the sequence of asanas. You’ll work on your breath, learning to regulate it and maintain the proper pace and flow.

ASHTANGA – SHORT VINYASA FOR BEGINNERS

A practice for those who want to start their adventure with Ashtanga Yoga, but also for those who have been practicing for a longer period of time and want to break the routine, improve their practice and gain a new perspective.

Vinyasa is a guided class in which we perform several standing asanas, repeating them two or three times. Each time, we alternate them with a vVinyasa (Sun Salutation without pausing for five breaths in Downward-Facing Dog).

The goal is to develop stability and work in the asanas, and to familiarize ourselves with their sequence. Each repetition allows us to isolate and focus on individual elements, such as: asana alignment/stability, upper body work, breathwork, and Drishti work. Only when we are standing stable and know how to position ourselves can we begin to pay attention to the finer details.

A practice in which each Asana is interwoven with a full Vinyasa (easier or more difficult – depending on the level of advancement of the practitioner) causes strengthening of the entire body, intense cleansing (through sweating) and deeper concentration of the mind, as well as improving the efficiency of the heart and unblocking the breath (Vinyasa, through specific movement, activates the respiratory muscles and the diaphragm).

FULL VINYASA

A practice with an increased number of Vinyasas, during which we learn to count Vinyasas (Sanskrit) mindfully and attentively, gain additional warmth and build physical endurance, and improve our breath control. This class is intended for those who have mastered at least half of the First Series.
